Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Natural

The Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Natural is the workhorse of the 1964 line — and possibly the best premium robusto on the market for the price. The 1964 Anniversary Series was released in 1994 to commemorate Padron's 30th anniversary, and the Exclusivo (a 5½ × 50 box-pressed robusto) has been the most-bought, most-recommended size in the line for three decades. The Natural variant — what you're looking at here — uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan habano wrapper that's slightly lighter and more refined than the Maduro version, with the same flawless construction.

This cigar is hand-rolled at Padron's Estelí factory using long-filler tobacco aged a minimum of four years. The box-press is firm and squared without being aggressive.

Construction

The 1964 line built Padron's reputation for being basically the most consistent rolling operation in the industry — and the Exclusivo is the proof. The pre-light draw is calibrated perfectly, the burn line stays sharp from light to nub, and the ash holds in inch-plus segments. You can leave this cigar in the ashtray for five minutes, pick it back up, and it's still going. That kind of reliability is rare at any price point.

Flavor profile

Medium-full bodied, well-balanced. The first third opens with cedar, sweet cream, and a soft pepper that's there but not loud. The middle third broadens into toasted almond, a creamy coffee-with-milk note, and a developing earthiness that gives the smoke real depth. The final third is the Natural's sweet spot — the cedar deepens, a light caramel sweetness emerges on the finish, and the pepper settles into a warm hum on the retrohale.

This is a 60–75 minute smoke. The 1964 rewards a slow burn — pull too hard and you'll lose the subtleties.

Pairings & occasion

This is a versatile cigar. Pair it with a quality bourbon (Eagle Rare, Woodford Reserve), a single-malt Scotch (Macallan 12, Oban 14), or a strong coffee. It's substantial enough for an after-dinner smoke but not so heavy that it requires a special occasion. The 1964 Exclusivo is the cigar most Padron loyalists smoke on a regular Tuesday.
