Arturo Fuente Hemingway Sun Grown Signature
The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Sun Grown Signature is part of one of the most celebrated lines in modern cigar making — the Hemingway series, named for Ernest Hemingway and designed entirely in the figurado shape (tapered at both ends, like the cigars Hemingway favored in Cuba). The Signature size at 6 × 47 sits in the heart of the line: long enough for a substantial smoke, short enough to stay focused, and pressed into the elegant perfecto profile that has made the Hemingway series instantly recognizable on any humidor shelf.
This is the Sun Grown variant, which uses an African Cameroon wrapper sun-grown in Cameroon's Bertoua region — one of the most prized and distinctive wrappers in the world. Underneath, the binder and filler are aged Dominican tobacco from Arturo Fuente's own Chateau de la Fuente farm, the family's iconic estate that produces some of the finest tobacco in the Dominican Republic.
Construction
Figurado cigars are notoriously difficult to roll well — both ends taper, the body is wider in the middle, and the draw needs to stay calibrated through changing diameters. Arturo Fuente has been doing this for over a century, and it shows: every Hemingway is rolled with reference-grade precision. The pre-light cold draw is open and rich, pulling sweet wood and cedar. The burn line stays sharp through the figurado transitions, and the ash holds in solid segments.
Flavor profile
Medium bodied, full-flavored. The narrow head concentrates flavor early — the first inch hits with sweet wood, cedar, and a defined nuttiness (almond, a touch of pecan). As the cigar widens through the middle third, the smoke volume increases and the profile broadens — light cocoa, a creamy backbone, and a developing coffee-with-cream finish. The final third deepens — bittersweet chocolate, a touch of leather, and a quiet pepper that builds on the retrohale without ever turning aggressive.
The Cameroon wrapper's signature sweetness carries throughout the smoke. This is what figurados are supposed to taste like.
Pairings & occasion
This is a versatile cigar — substantial enough for an evening smoke but smooth enough for a weekend afternoon. Pair with a quality bourbon (Maker's Mark, Eagle Rare), a single-malt Scotch (Highland Park 12), an aged rum, or a strong coffee. The Cameroon sweetness pairs particularly well with brown spirits.
