Oliva V Melanio Double Toro Natural

The Oliva Serie V Melanio Double Toro is the largest format of the blend behind Cigar Aficionado's 2014 Cigar of the Year — a 6 × 60 box-pressed gordo with the line's signature Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over aged Nicaraguan long-fillers. The big ring slows the burn, cools the smoke, and rounds out the Melanio's famous polish.

Construction

The golden-oily Sumatra wrapper carries the gentle box-press cleanly at 60 ring. Cold draw offers raisin and cedar. Melanio construction holds at every size — even burn, sturdy ash, generous smoke.

Flavor profile

Full-bodied and luxurious. The first third opens with cocoa, cedar, and toasted almond, creamier than the smaller vitolas. The middle third develops the line's caramel sweetness, espresso, and baking spice. The final third settles into dark chocolate and oak. A 90–110 minute smoke that stays balanced from band to nub.

Pairings & occasion
