Padron 1926 Series 40th Anniversary Natural

The Padron 1926 Serie 40th Anniversary was released in 2004 to commemorate José Padron's 40 years of cigar making — and it remains one of the most decorated cigars in the modern era. The Maduro version was famously named Cigar Aficionado's #2 cigar of 2004 and has scored consistently in the 95+ range; the Natural variant you're looking at here uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan habano wrapper with a slightly lighter, more refined profile than its Maduro sibling, but with all the same construction perfection that defines the line.

This is a 6½ × 54 box-pressed toro — the exclusive size for the 40th Anniversary line. Each cigar is individually numbered, hand-rolled at Padron's Estelí factory using long-filler tobacco aged a minimum of five years. Production is limited annually, which is why availability fluctuates and prices stay where they are.

Construction

Box-pressed with the firm, square-shouldered profile Padron is known for. The pre-light draw is perfectly calibrated — open enough to pull rich smoke, tight enough to hold flavor. Cold notes pull cedar and a touch of hay. The burn is famously consistent: razor-sharp line, no touch-ups needed, ash holds in inch-plus segments. Flavor profile

Medium-full bodied, refined rather than aggressive. The first third opens with cedar, sweet cream, and a quiet pepper that hovers in the background. The middle third broadens — almond and toasted bread come forward, with a creamy cocoa note developing on the finish. The final third deepens into a coffee-with-cream sweetness, the cedar gaining structure and the spice gently rising. This is what aged Nicaraguan tobacco tastes like at its peak.
