Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Toro
The Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Toro is the same beloved blend as the Robusto in the line, just with the time and space to fully unfold. At 6 × 52, this is a 75-to-90-minute smoke that gives the Connecticut-shade-wrapped blend room to develop transitions you simply don't get in a shorter cigar. For smokers who already love the Reserva Real and want a longer afternoon experience — or for new buyers who want the most complete expression of the blend — the Toro is the size to choose.
This is the non-Cuban version of Romeo y Julieta, made in Honduras by Altadis. The wrapper is a smooth, golden Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaf, with a binder and filler blend of aged Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobacco.
Construction
The Connecticut Shade wrapper continues to be flawlessly applied at the larger Toro size — even seam, no veins, smooth burn from light to nub. The longer length lets the ash develop into solid 1.5-inch segments before naturally releasing, and the draw stays calibrated through the entire smoke. Pre-light cold notes pull cedar and quiet vanilla.
Flavor profile
Mild to medium bodied, full-flavored. The Toro format reveals the blend's evolution more clearly than the Robusto does. The first third opens with cedar, sweet cream, and a hint of almond. The second third broadens significantly — vanilla and toasted bread come forward, a soft cocoa note emerges in the background, and the smoke takes on a creamier mouthfeel. The third quarter develops the most personality — a coffee-with-cream finish, gentle baking spice, and a subtle nuttiness that holds the smoke together. The final inch deepens into warm cedar with a quiet pepper on the retrohale.
The Toro is where you appreciate just how aged the tobacco in this blend is — there's no harshness, no sharp edges, just smooth complexity from inch to inch.
Pairings & occasion
This is a weekend afternoon cigar — substantial enough to deserve attention but not so demanding that you need a special event. Pair with a light Scotch (Macallan 12, Glenfiddich 15), a quality bourbon (Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace), a chardonnay, or a strong coffee. The Toro plays well with slightly stronger pairings than the Robusto does — the longer smoke time and richer middle third can hold its own.
