Oliva V Melanio Toro Maduro

The Oliva Serie V Melanio Toro Maduro takes the blend behind Cigar Aficionado's 2014 Cigar of the Year and dresses it in a rich San Andrés Maduro wrapper from Mexico. The result is the Melanio's signature polish with a darker, sweeter voice — a 6 × 52 box-pressed toro rolled in Nicaragua from aged Nicaraguan long-fillers.

Construction

The San Andrés leaf is dark, toothy, and evenly oiled, with the line's signature soft box-press. Cold draw offers dark chocolate and espresso. Burn and draw hold to the Melanio's exceptional standard through the full smoke.

Flavor profile

Medium to full-bodied. The first third opens with dark cocoa, coffee, and a touch of pepper. The middle third develops the wrapper's natural sweetness — dark caramel, raisin, toasted bread — over an earthy core. The final third finishes on bittersweet chocolate and seasoned oak. Slower-burning than most toros; expect 75–90 minutes.
