Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro

The Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro is the dark-wrapper expression of arguably the best premium robusto on the market for the price. Released in 1994 to commemorate Padron's 30th anniversary, the 1964 line is built entirely from sun-grown Nicaraguan tobacco aged four years — and the Exclusivo, a 5½ × 50 box-pressed robusto, is its workhorse vitola. The Maduro wrapper adds a layer of natural sweetness and depth that turns an already complete cigar into a dessert course.

Construction

Textbook Padron: firm box-press, oily espresso-brown wrapper, and a cold draw of chocolate and dried fruit. The burn is slow and even, the ash holds firm, and the draw delivers dense, cool smoke from the first puff to the last inch.

Flavor profile

Full-bodied, smooth, and layered. The first third leads with cocoa, roasted coffee, and a gentle baking spice. The middle third develops molasses sweetness, leather, and toasted nuts. The final third turns rich and earthy with a creamy, lingering finish. No harshness at any point — this is power with manners. Plan on 60–75 minutes.

Pairings & occasion

An evening cigar that shines after a good meal. Pair with bourbon (Maker's 46, Eagle Rare 10), a dark añejo rum (Ron Zacapa), vintage port, or espresso. It's also forgiving enough to be a special-occasion cigar for a less experienced friend — rich, but never punishing.
